Crown City’s curfew drones

The Hush Patrol

On your tail

Shhhhhhhhh.

The Hush Patrol is the city agency that enforces Quiet Hours, founded last spring and headquartered in the Hush Tower, the old Crown on Crown Hill. At 10 p.m. its drones pour out of the belfry like a flock and spread across the city.

They have a speaker grille for a face, a spotlight and a shush for a siren, and every one of them plays the Commissioner’s recordings: “Quiet Hours have begun. Sleep well, Crown City.” There are no officers on the street. Just drones.

How they hunt

By ear, not by sight. Noise draws them in, but style overloads their grilles: landed tricks and grinds knock them back. Stumble, and one drops in behind you with its spotlight on. Stumble again before it backs off, and it’s got you.

A Shredquake blasts them right back down the street.

The drone that hums

Unit H-77 was the first drone to chase Rumble, and his first Shredquake knocked its speaker loose. Ever since, it hums along to whatever he’s skating to. Its name is Murmur.
