How the city went quiet

The founding
Settlers build a port around the bay, and a bell tower on the hill that hums.

The Midnight Crown
For a century, the bell in the Crown rang at midnight and the whole city felt it. That was the signal: the Night had begun.

Tolly takes the rope
A young tortoise becomes the Crown’s bell-ringer, just as the arcade boom gives Arcade Row its marquees.

Boards hit the Marquee Steps, and crews start forming district by district.

The Wrong Note
One midnight last spring, the Crown cracked in the middle of its ring. The hill shook, the tower closed, and nobody has heard the bell since.
