Clock and radio repairs, Arcade Row

Tolly

Slow down. The good part’s in the echo.

For forty years Tolly climbed the Crown, the old bell tower on Crown Hill, and rang the midnight bell that opened the Night. Since the bell went quiet he fixes radios, jukeboxes and the occasional skateboard at Tolly’s Fix-It on Arcade Row, in a shop where a hundred clocks tick at once.

He talks slowly on purpose, so people have to listen. He was the first grown-up who treated Rumble’s noise as a gift, and he built Rumble’s deck. He gives the best tips in the city, and he changes the subject whenever anyone asks about the night the bell stopped.

What Tolly isn’t saying

Tolly cracked the bell himself, on purpose, the night the hill rang so hard the tower swayed. He has never told anyone, and his silence handed the Commissioner her chance.

What scares him is what’s under the hill. In season 4 he confesses: a city with no rests made the hill ring too hard.
